Employee Spotlight: The Finishing Touch

by Amy Blackburn

There is magic that happens towards the end of a set build.

You will hear the whistle of a familiar tune as paint cans, brushes and rollers appear. What was once a spackle covered, plain wall will soon be transformed by color and texture allowing our designers vision to fully come to life. This is the proverbial icing on the cake.

This magic is performed by Lenny Buckwalter, Shadowlight’s Senior Lead Finisher of 14 years.

Our President Phil Hiestand says it best: “Lenny is intensely dedicated to his position at SLG and the company as a whole.  Over his tenure at SLG he has given his heart and soul to every paint focused project and 110% on regular projects.  He creates faux finishes and textures that the camera perceives as real, the perfect solution for studio photography and video”

We thought it would be fun to learn a little more about Lenny.

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you?

My wife says, Brad Pitt. I think I am more like Tom Hanks.

Do you have a motto or personal mantra?

Difficult people and circumstances build character and make us better people. It’s all a necessary part of the journey!

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?

I love spending time with my grandchildren. I have a 4-year-old grandson and an almost 2-year-old granddaughter. Also, my wife and I like to travel locally as well as distant places.

What has been your favorite project at SLG?

That’s a really difficult question- I’ve had so many amazing opportunities here! I really enjoy the creative aspect of my job- faux painting and such. A recent job we did for Brizo required me to do an entire bathroom in a distressed, antiqued finish- that was fun!

We think you did an amazing job Lenny!
